The Good Spoon is a restaurant mock-up website. We made it in order to show potential clients in the food industry an example of a one-page-website. If a client were to decide to go with the design shown with minimal changes they can expect a significant discount due to the fact that most of the design work is already done. We still teach the client everything there is to know about their new back-end as well as how to update any content. Of course, our monthly post-completion support is still included.

THE REASONING

Running and managing a restaurant is intensive work. Those in the food industry have enough to worry about without trying to budget $3,000 or more for a website. Their business should be their priority, not maintaining a high-tech website.  The idea behind this website design was to lower that barrier to entry while still keeping the bar for quality high. If a client should decide to go with this design then they would be pleasantly surprised at the positive impact it can make for their bottom line.

THE GOALS

This picture showcases the menu and part of the gallery carousel. The menu is changed via a text editor and can have multiple pages useful for separating the breakfast menu from the dinner menu.

The website should fulfill four majors areas:

  1. Ensure clients have the best looking website possible at a reasonable price.
  2. The website should have a modern look and employ dynamic web design so that the website looks good regardless of what device the user is using.
  3. Once a client's website is completed it should be easy for the client to update content themselves such as pictures/menus/phone numbers etc.
  4. The website should be modular. If a client wants to make sweeping changes or small updates in the future it should be easy for someone to implement them...wether that party be Osprey or someone else.

THE RESULT

We created and tested many different designs, but only one design stood out from the rest and checked all of our boxes. The design we choose seemed to embody the idea of a "single page scrolling website" the best. These types of websites have become very popular over the past couple years for small businesses. The reasoning is simple: if properly implemented it can heavily reduce user friction. When a user is using a long scrolling page everything should flow and lead to the next item/topic. You will notice that the website starts with a tantalizing picture along with important information regarding the business. Following this you get a nice gallery and the menu. The website also has the ability to integrate with OpenTable
